What Patients From the 12148 Side of Town Say

Rexford sits on the far western edge of Clifton Park, so most people out here have a choice: cross the Mohawk toward Niskayuna and Schenectady, or drive east into their own town. These reviews come straight off the practice's live Google profile, unedited, from people who made the second choice.

Medical Spa Rexford

The closest medical spa to Rexford, NY is Capital Skin Medical Spa at 1520 U.S. Route 9 in Clifton Park — roughly seven and a half miles east, in the same town, under a different ZIP code. Dr. John M. Purcell Jr., MD owns and directs the practice. Booking runs through (518) 458-7546, extension 2.

Rexford is its own postal address. Mail here reads 12148, not the 12065 the rest of Clifton Park uses, and that one detail is why so many people out on Balltown Road assume the town’s businesses belong to somebody else. They don’t. The hamlet is inside the Town of Clifton Park, and the drive is NY-146 east to Northway Exit 9, then U.S. Route 9 south — the same interchange that puts our front door on your right.

The other thing that shapes this hamlet is the water. Rexford grew up on the Mohawk, on the canal, and it still lives that way: boats out of the Schenectady Yacht Club, the golf season at The Edison Club on Riverview Road, a summer spent outdoors on the river side of town. That is a real, honest reason the pigment and vein questions here land in September rather than in May — and if you want the full treatment menu before you call, start at the Rexford and Clifton Park medical spa.

This page is the Rexford-specific corner of a larger silo. For the town-wide picture — hours, the full service list, the Route 9 corridor — read our Clifton Park medical spa page.

One honest warning before you dial. Two businesses share 1520 U.S. Route 9: Capital Skin Medical Spa, and Capital Skin Center, the separate dermatology practice run by Dr. J. Michael Purcell Sr., MD. Same address, two practices — extension 2 reaches the medical spa.

Nineteen treatments run out of one building on U.S. Route 9, and each one has its own page with pricing context and what the visit actually looks like. Pick the one that brought you here.

Getting to Capital Skin from Rexford

From Rexford along Route 146

From the hamlet centre where NY-146 meets Main Street, take Route 146 east. You will cross over Interstate 87 at Northway Exit 9 — do not get on it — and continue to the U.S. Route 9 junction, then turn south. 1520 U.S. Route 9 is on the commercial strip, in the building shared with the dermatology practice.

Get driving directions

From Riverview Road and the river hamlets

If you are down along the Mohawk — the Riverview Road side, past The Edison Club and out toward Vischer Ferry — pick up Vischer Ferry Road or Riverview Road east, then join Route 146 or Grooms Road toward the Northway corridor. From there it is Route 9 south. This is the longer of the two approaches and the prettier one.

Get driving directions

Over the Rexford Bridge from the Niskayuna side

Plenty of people who use this practice live across the water and reach Rexford over the Rexford Bridge, the Balltown Road crossing of the Mohawk from the Niskayuna and Schenectady side. Come off the bridge into the hamlet, pick up NY-146 east, and you are on the same run everyone else takes — Northway Exit 9, then Route 9 south. If you are already crossing the river to get anywhere, this is the shorter crossing to make.

Get driving directions

From Grooms Road at the south edge of the hamlet

Grooms Road bounds Rexford on its south side and meets the crossroads at Grooms Corners. If that is your end of the hamlet, you do not need to go back up to Main Street at all — take Grooms Road east toward the Northway corridor, then work up to Route 9 and turn south. It keeps you off the busiest stretch of 146 and drops you onto the same commercial strip.

Get driving directions

Four approaches cover almost everybody in and around the hamlet, and they all finish the same way: U.S. Route 9 southbound, on-site parking. However you come in, the arrival is the same: 1520 U.S. Route 9, in the building shared with Capital Skin Center — the separate dermatology practice at the same address. Extension 2 is the medical spa desk, and it is worth calling before you leave Rexford, because there are no walk-ins here.

  • Grooms Corners — south of Rexford at the Grooms Road crossroads
  • Clifton Knolls — the Clifton Knolls-Mill Creek census area, east toward Moe Road

About Rexford, NY

Rexford is an unincorporated hamlet in the Town of Clifton Park, Saratoga County, and it keeps a ZIP code of its own — 12148, not the 12065 the rest of the town uses. Its centre sits at 42.853055, -73.888333, on the western edge of the township where NY-146 runs down toward the water as Balltown Road. Capital Skin is roughly seven and a half miles east and slightly south of that point, which is close enough that Rexford belongs to this practice’s everyday map rather than its outer edge.

The hamlet was built by the canal. It takes its name from Edward Rexford and was long known as Rexford Flats, a commercial stop that grew through the 1840s; the 1839 Methodist Church and a period blacksmith shop are still standing. The stone Erie Canal aqueduct of 1841 carried the canal across the Mohawk River here, and its masonry survives — no other hamlet in Clifton Park has one. An early-1900s trolley line once brought day-trippers out to an amusement park called Luna Park on this side of town.

Two kinds of street make up Rexford now. Near the water there are 19th-century canal-era houses; away from it, single-family construction from the later 20th century, with household incomes running above the town average. The Edison Club, a private 27-hole course opened in 1904, sits on Riverview Road, and the Schenectady Yacht Club works the river off Route 146. That river-and-golf summer is a genuine reason people here start asking about pigment and vein treatments in September, once the season is over.

No — the two are neighbours, not the same place.
